When finished, the painting is fully and ritually consecrated in the traditional magical adept method (made sacred) to enable power and contact to flow through it.

DEATH AND THE LADDER BY JOSEPHINE MCCARTHY FEB 2026
Death and the Ladder is a magically contacted and ritually consecrated painting that portrays the journey of the dead as they pass through the forest of their own flesh to the Ladder of Ascent which is part hidden and part shown as a twisting tornado shape.
The ‘Ladder’ or ‘Chariot’ as it is also known is a power governed by the spirit of Air, the power of Utterance and of the Word. It rises from the earth/flesh and reaches up to the stars. In the painting, the blood moon keeps vigil as the spirit navigates their way from the pull of life to the Light of the Stars.
The painting was triggered by the sudden death of my eldest sister who died due to medical malpractice, and the death of Renee Nichol Good. Her face, lit by the beauty of her inner light smiled at the man who then put her to death. Her murder touched me deeply, and both women had their lives taken with the indifference of an arrogant man.
The power that flows from the painting and affects the area around it is a power of guidance and compassion as souls flounder in the confusion of sudden death. The spirit of the painting creates a pathway that can be seen for a large radius in the area around it, acting as a beacon, a guide, and as the Word of comfort.

The Tenth Gate by Josephine McCarthy june 24
The Tenth Gate of the Duat/Underworld as the sun is about to pass through it. To the right is a seated female figure who is only partly shown, who seems to be a part of the rock throne she is sat on. Her name is Hallowed Place - she is the goddess of this ‘hour’ in the Underworld, and guarding the gate is Glister, the serpent who ‘Glistens’’…..From the Book of the Gates, 10th hour: Now he makes bright the original darkness, he gives light for the Hidden region, so says Sia.
Painted on canvas with acrylic paint. 2ft/61cm wide, 3ft/91.5cm length. Painting will be taken off the frame and rolled up for shipping. Will need framing or re stretching.
